Thursday, June 26, 1932
A large part of Oxford's business district was wiped out by fire early Tuesday morning, June 28. The buildings housing the stores of R.S. Umlah, Davis and Swan and D.G. Wood, also the flat occupied by Mrs. Maude CHISHOLM and the Women's Institute and K of P rooms were completely destroyed. The flames were halted in the building of J. E. HILLS of Water St., occupied by Ivan PURDY's barber shop, which was nearly all burned.

Died - Ivan Keigh PURDY, 67, of Williamsdale, December 8. Active for over 45 years in the lumbering, maple and Christmas tree exporting industries, he was a pioneer and leading blueberry producer in the province. He served as a Cumberland County Councillor for 18 consecutive years.
