Narrative
GORDON, Kenneth M. - 86, Amherst, formerly of Oxford, died February 8, 1994, in
Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born at Black River, Cumberland
County, he was a son of the late Gay and Emma (Wood) Gordon. Known as the
unofficial rose king of Canada, he was founder of Gordon's Greenhouse Ltd.,
Oxford. He was president of Sugar Loaf Fish Farms Ltd. and had worked 16 years
as a butter maker with Oxford Creamery. He was a former member of Oxford Town
Council and served as deputy mayor. He was a former member of Oddfellows Lodge
and Oxford Kiwanis Club. He was honored by the Oxford Area Lion's CLub in 1975
in appreciation for community service and in 1976 by Flowers Canada in
appreciation for dedication to the flower industry. He was a member of Oxford
United Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Annie E. Stewart;
four sons, Gary, Gay, Keith, all of Oxford; David, Truro; two daughters, Mrs.
Edith Reynolds, Mrs. Bessie Brookins, both of Oxford; two sisters, Mrs. Estelle
Graves, Amherst; Mrs. Muriel Guilderson, British Columbia; 20 grandchildren; 21
great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers, Howard, Clare, Ross,
Albert, Stanley; five sisters, Lydia, Martha, Alice, Maybelle, Gaynelle.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, Oxford.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Oxford United Baptist Church, Rev. Blair
Holden officiating. Spring burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford.
